CHOPHOUSE

I’ve eaten my fair share of steaks to proudly claim the title of budding steak novice and I am constantly on the hunt for an all encompassing steak. I need it soft and smooth and dripping with flavour. Lucky for me, Matt Moran decided to take Chophouse under his wing to gift us a steakhouse with steaks acing my criteria on every visit.

Chophouse interior and martini

You enter via bustling Blight St in the CBD to a two-storey dining area radiating a New York-esque space with an almost Mediterranean twist. Wood-panelling dresses the walls while wine bottles, terracotta vases and oil paintings scatter themselves through out the moody room. Even stepping into the red and black tiled bathroom is a sexy endeavour. With all aspects of interior and vibe ticked, it just leaves their menu.

Steak, mash and broccolini

It’s ever changing, the Chophouse menu. Each visit presents me with new cuts and new sides, delicious every time. Their scotch fillet has always been a favourite, a perfectly round, pillowy piece of steak. Once I started upping my game, their strip-loin joined the rotation thanks to a glorious cap of fat dancing around its perfectly seared edges. When I took it up a notch once more, their wagyu rump cap with a whopping marble score of 8+ became the new number one. The juiciest cut I ever did see, each slice of the knife was as though I was slicing through a perfectly pink butter.

MY RECS

Scotch Fillet, Paris mash and Broccolini

Side, wise quality ingredients are constantly on rotation. Be on the lookout for their chilli and garlic coated broccolini or their sweetened carrots. One side to recommend that thankfully never seems to disappear from their menu is the paris mash. A mash so soft it could be served with a straw is then drowned in a melted butter. Life’s too short to be worrying about the health effects that are going to come out of this rich masterpiece later.

With an extensive wine list and tasty array of cocktails to compliment their incredible food, Chophouse is a sexy spot to impress whoever may be gracing your presence.
