DEAR DEER DUMPLING
Take only a slight glance at my bank statements, and you will see Dear Deer Dumpling listed in there. Numerous times. Just this past month. I hate to be throwing such colossal claims into what should be a fair and equal guide, but I truly do believe that Dear Deer Dumpling is the best Chinese I’ve ever had. Their food is consistent, is unmatched in quality and is absolutely teeming with flavour on every visit. They do sit a little higher in the price range, but with what you are getting and the fact that their portion sizes are extremely generous, you are never going to feel cheated out of your money.
My most ordered dish is their hot and spiced beef. Tender slivers of beef, bites of capsicum and an abundance of chilli’s litter the plate. Be warned, the spices will burn your insides in a way so exhilarating you will be begging for me. A sadistic dish, but I will not make an order without it. If you aren’t feeling as brave, opt for their honey chicken. A crowd favourite, the juicy chicken bites are coated in honey and dressed with 100’s and 1000’s, just to emphasise that perfectly candied sweetness. Don’t be alarmed by the 100’s of 1000’s, if you can load them up on your bread, you can handle a little sprinkle over the chicken. Another mild option is their mongolian beef, juicy beef slices are coated in flavour and nestled amongst an array of saucy vegetables.
MY RECS
The dumpling range is also extensive and alway so good. My favourites are the pan-fried pork and chive dumplings. Make sure to keep your surroundings clear as one bite into these juicy little balls shoots out a spray of aromatic flavour landing on anything nearby. A rich ball of minced pork is that waiting patiently, encased by that slightly fried but chewy wrapper. Their wagyu beef dumplings are the same, with a tender ball of wagyu beef waiting to be scoffed down. Their soup dumplings are also a must order, the hot broth of subtle porkiness maintains a deep flavour beneath the wrinkly sacks. Unappealing in look but those few seconds of delicious consumption is a pleasure to experience.
They also offer a selection of noodles, their hot oil noodles are my favourite. All this dish consists of is some wide and chewy noodles coated in a soft chilli oil. That slightly numbing oil glistens over the lips in the most elegant way as the noodles are slurped down, a simplistic but delicious dish.
When visiting Dear Deer Dumpling, don’t be alarmed by the butterflies hanging from the roof or the artistic deers staring at you from the walls (tacky decor is a sign of incredible food). This place holds a very special place within my heart, and also my stomach. A must visit if you appreciate good Chinese.
